I could probably find one and download it in the time it takes me to write this post (okay - maybe a bit longer, but it's relatively easy). This is not as hard to find as one might think. This may be new news to some but there are illegal versions of Finale with a crack in order to "register" the software. There are some on this forum who feed their children with money earned using Finale. Even if a key were not provided "free", you could still purchase one - except: (here's the risk) what if MakeMusic goes bankrupt? Finale will only work until your C: drive fails, then you would have to use different software. MakeMusic is only obligated to give you two keys, but I have heard they are quite reasonable about subsequent hardware upgrades. ![]() If you continually upgrade your hardware (your C: drive in particular), you must request new authorization keys. While this technique provides great benefit to MakeMusic, there is some inconvenience and risk to their customers. Generally, an "authorization key" that works on one PC will not work on another, so while you might copy the software, you can't successfully authorize it with someone else's key. Imagine how much the next version of Finale would cost if MakeMusic knew only one person would ever purchase it.įinale will only run for 30 days without an "authorization key" from MakeMusic, which is only provided to legitimate purchasers of the license. Every person who does purchase Finale helps finance a portion of the research and development of future upgrades. I'd also love to see MM answer this question in the thread so others could read it in the future.Įvery person who needs Finale but doesn't buy it represents an "opportunity cost" to MakeMusic. I'd appreciate your thoughts, knowledge and comments on this. First - what does MM actually do to try to cut down on illegal copies of Finale and second - if, in a perfect world, MM could really eliminate all illegal copies of their program, would the price of a Finale upgrade really go down (or are these empty words for an idea that MM knows would never really come to fruition)? ![]() ![]() Now, I have never download or used any software illegally but like most of the people on this forum -I'm not naive enough to know that I could find an illegal, fully functioning, version of Finale quite easily using one of the many file sharing programs out there. This particular post was wondering if the reason this person was having difficulty using their font package was because it might have been an illegal version.Ī few years ago I read something from MM, I don't remember if it was an email or a mass mailing, saying that MM tries to keep the cost of Finale (upgrades or new copies) down but part of that battle was reducing/eliminating illegal copies of Finale. I was reading the 'Sonata Font' thread and came across a post that got me thinking. MakeMusic Forum > Public Forums > Finale - Windows - FORUM HAS MOVED! > Illegal Copies of Finale

![]() I've had my eye on a sous vide machine for a little while. The electric guitar I got myself as a reward for landing my current job, as if moving to a new city and starting a new gig was a promising time to take up a musical instrument. The lovely Wacom tablet my husband gave me to nudge my doodling into something more formal. Stacks of books bought on impulse but never read. The pile of knitting yarn that sat collecting dust next to the sofa for three years. The artifacts of these fancies are all over my home. I have a history of starting projects and not finishing them. After all, one team one dream, right? I can't exactly plan my life and leave him out of the conversation. I am going to rope my husband into reading it with me. It's time to read it, but I don't want to do it alone. The book has been sitting on my bedside table for over a year, giving me agita. Which brings me to the title of this post. ![]() I sure as shit haven't tackled it since I went back to work full-time. That quality time was spent bonding with my daughter, dealing with boob pain, and shuffling around like a zombie. I did not read the book during my six months of maternity leave - please. This is the part of the story where I admit that the book was published on my due date, and that I brought it with me when I went to the hospital to be induced, thinking I could cram the secrets of life into my brain in a couple of days while waiting to go into labor. You know what they say about the road to hell, right? It's paved with Netflix binges of House of Cards. Suffice it to say, I didn't read the book at UCLA-Santa Monica, but I did make it to the thrilling conclusion of Season 1.įast forward 13 months. Just look at that title! Who wouldn't say yes to a proposition like that? Yes, I do want to live well. Of course I want to be joyful, fools! Sign me up. The book was D esigning Your Life : How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans, two Stanford professors of design who decided to publish a book about their wildly popular undergrad course. So imagine how my heart leapt last year when I heard about a new book coming out that promised to take me by the hand and untangle the knots of stress, fatigue, laziness and avoidance that had me in a rut. But how long did the heartbroken father have to wait for that day? How many days, weeks, months or perhaps even years did he have to wait?Įvery day he would have looked down the road, hoping and praying for his long-lost son to return. We know the father saw his prodigal son from a distance, and then ran to meet him. I would say that the Parable of the Prodigal Son is a terrific illustration of all this. He so very much seeks a love relationship with us, but we so seldom feel the same way. ![]() He too longs for us, yearns for us, craves to spend time with us, and desires the best for us. God is even more devoted to us, his beloved. The second obvious spiritual lesson to be drawn from this story may be even more important. Through thick and thin, through snow, hail, sleet and rain, this dog went to the station every day in hopes of seeing his beloved master. ![]() I would say Hachiko puts most Christians to shame when it comes to dogged determination (pun intended), fierce loyalty and daily devotion. Are we as loyal and faithful to our Lord as this dog was to his owner?ĭo we pine after God not just once in a while but on a daily basis? Do we miss God greatly when we are away from him? Does our heart break when God seems absent? Do we start going to pieces when a day goes by without communion with our heavenly master? The first is about us and our relationship to God. Two main lessons of course can be offered here. Indeed, call me a sentimental old fool if you like – even now as I write about this story tears are welling up in my eyes.īut there are some obvious spiritual lessons that can be gleaned from this story. I for one got quite teary about it for some reason. The 2009 film offers a modern American twist to the tale, but the same pathos and emotion are fully on display. In March 2011, scientists finally settled the cause of death of Hachiko: the dog had both terminal cancer and a filaria infection. Hachiko died on Maat the age of 11 based on his date of birth. The professor had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, while he was giving a lecture, and died without ever returning to the train station in which Hachiko would wait.Įach day, for the next nine years, nine months and fifteen days, Hachiko awaited Ueno’s return, appearing precisely when the train was due at the station… The pair continued the daily routine until May 1925, when Ueno did not return. Ueno would commute daily to work, and Hachiko would leave the house to greet him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. In 1924, Hidesaburo Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took Hachiko, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. It is based on a real life dog Hachiko in Japan. So it was a heart-breaking story of a fiercely loyal dog who eventually died while waiting for his owner to get off the next train. While we can tell an adult or even a child about the death of someone, we cannot reason with a dog. Whether rain or snow or hail or sun, the dog was there every day, waiting patiently for his beloved master. It was too painful to think about a dog so loyal to his master that he spent the next ten years after his death waiting every day for him to return at a train station. I am not sure about others, but I at least got quite choked up about it for some reason. I did not watch it all for at least two reasons: one, life is busy and I don’t often watch entire movies, and two, it was a real tear-jerker. It is based on a true story of a dog whose loyalty to his master, even long after he died, has amazed so many. ![]() Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is a 2009 film starring Richard Gere. Lessons from who? OK, I never heard of Hachi either until last night when I watched a few minutes of a movie on television. ![]() Because there is "WAU" also in the source of, it seems that the alias is confirmed by WAU. Although Thomas Becket might tell you otherwise, cathedrals aren’t designed with murder in mind. Ubisoft had to make changes when it built Notre-Dame cathedral for Assassin’s Creed Unity. Image: Ubisoft Montreal/Ubisoft via Polygon The exquisite interior of Unity’s Notre-Dame. Wouldn’t it be poetic, then, for the game to bring something beautiful into this world, and help restore Notre-Dame? Why it wouldn’t work Unity’s poor reception was blamed for weak sales of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate the following year. There’s a beautiful narrative to it! Assassin’s Creed Unity was derided when it came out for its bugs, its poor optimization, its microtransactions, its companion app, its controversy over a lack of women character models in co-op. So basically, “Sure, if they ask us.” Experts also quashed the rumor - in French and in English. When asked by The Guardian, a Ubisoft spokesperson said that the company wasn’t involved in the reconstruction, but said, “We would be more than happy to lend our expertise in any way that we can to help with these efforts.” But the company never said it was handing over its plans or models. Ubisoft made a donation of €500,000 to the restoration effort and made Unity free on PC for a week. Didn’t Ubisoft have some incredibly detailed 3D models of the cathedral lying around? Couldn’t architects, historians, and artisans make use of these boons? The damage to the cathedral was and remains extensive, but French President Emmanuel Macron immediately swore that it would be rebuilt.įollowing the fire, I saw more than a few articles pop up suggesting that the much-maligned 2014 video game Assassin’s Creed Unity could provide a way forward. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released on the 11th of November for the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC.In April 2019, a fire started in Paris’ Notre-Dame cathedral. Sometimes these companion apps offer up more story and background information, and sometimes they act as a handy tool to help navigate the game with. Companion apps for video games are a great idea as this allows gamers to interact with the game beyond the console or PC that they are playing it on. ![]() 64) "Downtime" refers to our ability to communicate with the server.
